This is a NEW magazine follower for 38/40 and 44/40 caliber Winchester 1866 and also fits 1873. This is the second type of follower 1866 (the type one was identical to this but had a hole drilled in the side 7/16 of an inch from the closed Forearm pin that secured the magazine spring in place) This is the only follower that will work in the1866. This is also the follower 1873 large caliber .38 and .44 rifles. This part sits in the magazine tube and keeps the magazine spring from wrapping around the casing of the bullet as it pushes round down the tube.
