This is the safety bar (trigger stop) spring, also called the safety catch spring, used on the Winchester 1894 (up to serial num 400,000) and on the Winchester 1873 and 1876. It sits on top of the sear spring in the lower tang (the sear spring screw (wp50) goes through both springs) The tip of this L shaped spring depresses the safety bar/catch unlocking the trigger.
