Winchester 1904

     The Winchester Repeating Arms Company introduced the model 1904 bolt action rimfire rifle in 1904 as a full size version of their current production model 1902 rifle. The model 1904 had a heavier diameter barrel that was 21" Long instead of 18" long, a beefier stock with a schnabel forearm tip and longer length of pull, cresent steel rifle butt plate and better sights. This rifle was an immediate success and sold so well that other companies immediately followed suit in their production lines. The rifle had a number of small changes over its 28 years of production. The rifle was initially offered in 22 Short and 22 Long but 22 Extra Long was added in 1914 and 22 LR replaced the 22 Extra Long caliber in November of 1927. This rifle was disscontinued in 1931 with 299,857 rifles produced.
